Hello, everyone! After small discussion in the latest journal, I decided to hold a summer contest. Like our whole group, Poetry-on-the-mind, it´ll be POETRY ONLY contest. To enter, write a poem inspired by one of the following themes and follow these simple rules:

Rules:
- any form of poem is accepted
- it has to be a new work, submitted on or after 16. July 2019
- in description of your poem, write that it´s contest entry for Poetry-on-the-mind´s contest and write which theme it´s inspired by
- submit your poem into Contest folder
- you can submit 1 poem per theme (you can write poem inspired by multiple themes at once, but please make one theme the major one)

Inspiration

Tanabata is a Japanese star festival that celebrates the reunion of Orihime (Vega) and Hikoboshi (Altair).  According to legend they are separated by the Amanogawa (Milky Way, lit. "heavenly river") and may only meet once per year on the seventh day of the seventh lunar month.

In present-day Japan people generally celebrate this day by writing wishes, often in the form of poetry, on small pieces of paper called tanzaku.  They hang these on bamboo, sometimes with other decorations.

Select a Prompt

   Write a wish in the form of a poem. For bonus points create your own tanzaku and submit a drawing, painting, or photo of it (maybe even tied to a tree) along with your poem.

     Write about reunion with a person, place, or object important to you.

     Write about the night sky.

Hush, hush, don't speak now.
The silence is like a veil,
shrouding us in night.
Behind its screen, we are a
deep mystery, kept from light.
