The smell of the coffee
finally wakes me up
Teddy is smoking in the stockroom

I'm selling lottery tickets
when the sun comes up
The snow is blowing in the door

The people walking through
They could be from anywhere in the world
I could be anywhere in the world
But I'm not
I'm just here
Ballad about a working at a gas station- for Poetry Please's challenge.

The ethereal nature of the gas station struck me.
The gas station is just a tiny slice of my day, no, week (I love my Honda). But the people who work there watch us go through, whether I'm just on the way to work or stopping on the road for a snack on the way across the country...

Gas stations are places we all drop in from time to time so this is very universal. I have heard it is a horrible place to work. I really liked the part about how it could be anywhere but the person being 'just here'. I think it's always good to work in smells such as the coffee and the smoke. It makes it immediate and alive.
I like it. :)
