galloping up the hill

migration of shadows
across the fields

chain link fence
jingles with first raindrops

evening stroll...lumbering pace
box turtle crosses lawn
...intentions obvious

house tortoise walks
every year the same
now he moves the table aside

field navigation
many reasons to alter course
dandelion feast

meandering race
flower to flower
bees over tortoise

moments of shade
slip between sunlight
ahead of the tortoise

working all day-
sunbeams finally
break through

horses return from field

traveling without moving

quiet conversations
slow dancing follows

woven together
a tapestry of touch

out my kitchen window
birds shelter in the tree

hooves disturb bugs
that rise to the predators

our passing tangled
watched by many sparrows

as fast as we can gallop
dragonflies and swallows
circle us

hooves and rider prove
translucent wings and feather
are equally matched

beautiful fliers
so light and quick
but my horse carries me

and back once more
cascade of moments

no match for swallows
but this gallop
brings tears to my eyes

fields edge approaching...
turn around or jump the fence
stables  beckon... naptime
